Taylor Family YMCA

Camp Excel is a seven-week summer day camp that is fully subsidized by donations to the YMCA's Annual Campaign. Camp Excel is open to students and siblings currently enrolled in Y Learning programs and those that have participated in the past. Through the YMCA's partnership with Wake County Public Schools, each child will receive a snack and breakfast and lunch each day. Every child will also receive swim lessons twice a week through our Y Splash program. At Camp Excel children can choose their activities. This summer camp offers arts and crafts, dance and sports like football, basketball, hockey and soccer. Rising kindergartners will focus on kindergarten readiness. Children in grades 1 - 5 will spend two hours per day engaged in activities to improve math skills and literacy. All children will be working with certified teachers. Operated by the Taylor Family YMCA and the Northwest Cary YMCA, Camp Excel is for kids in rising grades K - 10. Camp Excel is located at West Cary Middle School at 1000 Evans Road, Cary, NC 27513. Camp hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. M - F. Volunteers help make camp an exciting experience by assisting counselors lead small groups, engaging in camp experiences, offering support in our literacy center and making all campers feel known, cared for and encouraged in a safe and fun environment. Bilingual Spanish speakers are highly desired. Volunteers are requested June 23 - August 15, M - F 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.. Volunteer opportunities are open to members and non-members 16 & up. We ask that volunteers commit to at least two days a week for four weeks of service at Camp Excel.
