Generosity comes in many forms, and it's often the best way to support important causes that matter the most in our lives. The YMCA Annual Campaign allows children, families and adults to lead healthy lives - regardless of their ability to pay. 100% of the dollars raised goes directly to those in need in our own communities. By the year 2024, our Y will serve nearly 200,000 people in our region. Ambassadors will help spread the Y story by educating our neighbors on the impact the YMCA has on our community and ask them to help us make our community a better place to live by making a financial commitment. Four steps to become a Durham YMCA Annual Campaign Ambassador: 1) Say Yes! 2) Learn more. Attend a training to learn about how the Y strengthens the foundations of our community. 3) Give a gift. Make your own donation to the YMCA Annual Campaign 4) Get a gift. Invite a friend or family member to invest in the YMCA Annual Campaign Join the Durham YMCA team to help raise our $600,000 goal!

YMCA youth swim lessons emphasize water safety, skill and stroke development and are offered year-round for swimmers ages 6 - 12 of all skill levels. YMCA swim lessons emphasize water safety, skill and stroke development. Beginning swimmers are introduced to basic stroke movement and learn how to be more comfortable in the water. More advanced swimmers are instructed in stroke technique, endurance and safety skills. YMCA swim lessons have a low child-to-instructor ratio to ensure plenty of time in the water. Swim lessons and classes are available during the week and on weekends. Parents are welcome to watch lessons from the pool deck. Volunteers are utilized as an extra safety measure during the lessons. This allows the instructor to focus solely on one child at a time while the volunteer maintains safety and boundaries with the remainder of the class on the wall. This includes singing songs with the swimmers, playing games, and generally distracting them between turns.
