The YMCA of the Triangle Area YOTA Swim Team is an association-wide team comprised of competitors of all ages and skill levels. YOTA offers opportunities for swimmers of many different levels and abilities. This is a year-round activity that emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship and personal achievement. YOTA Swim Team volunteers will have the opportunity to volunteer at swim meets as timers, meet officials, travel trip chaperones, parent advisory committee members and more. Each YOTA swim team volunteer will need to read and agree to the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies before volunteering. Join us to serve your community! In partnership with the Lee County Department of Transportation, the Ingram Family YMCA has adopted a section of Carthage Street. We are responsible for keeping our section (from Fields Dr. to Tyndall Dr.) clean and litter-free. This is an outdoor event, so please be aware of the weather and dress accordingly! We will host our cleanup day rain or shine. Closed-toed shoes are required. Sunscreen recommended. All supplies are generously provided by Spruce and the Town of Cary.

Camp G.R.A.C.E. is a day camp designed for children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other special needs. Each session of Camp G.R.A.C.E. operates for one week, with each session focusing on building specific skills incorporating therapeutic ideas from many disciplines. We offer two different sessions: Social Skills and Building Blocks. Social Skills Sessions are designed for children that do not require one-on-one assistance. The focus of these sessions will be on activity skill building, teamwork activities, and social situations. The Building Blocks sessions are designed with a smaller ratio to allow for more individual attention. The YMCA is partnering with Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools' TRAC program to provide meaningful work experience to a select group of students. Students will help with facilities, greeting, and other duties as assigned while working closely with their job coach.

Coffee and Conversation - ESL is a great way for the community (members, guest, program participants and volunteers) to connect with others. The program will promote cultural exchange, friendship and language learning. We hope members will connect with other members and develop a sense of belonging with their Y family as part of the Y’s intentional diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work. We will host Coffee and Conversation - ESL on the second Wednesday of every month in the lobby of the Northwest Cary Y. The YMCA is partnering with Cristo Rey Research Triangle High School for a second year. Their students get a high-level, college preparatory education and are acquiring valuable work experience in the process through their work study program. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA will host a small group of students who will gain valuable work experience in our membership, youth, aquatics and wellness departments.

The Northwest Cary YMCA prides itself in maintaining a clean and orderly building. Facility Maintenance volunteers play a key role in prioritizing member safety and take pride in presenting a friendly, aesthetically pleasing, safe and healthy setting for the YMCA members and visitors. Facility Maintenance Volunteers assist our branch operations staff in maintaining the facility and its grounds. Inside, volunteers may be asked to wipe down wellness floor machines, fold towels, vacuum carpets or dust mop floors, wash windows and assist with other tasks to keep our branch in tip-top shape. Occasionally, assistance needed outside of the building may include trash clean up, or assisting with placement of event signage or decorations as an example. Responsibilities are set at the discretion of Facilities Director.

Our onsite child care serves babies (6 weeks) through elementary aged children (8 years) while their parents participate in YMCA onsite programs. Children will participate in games, activities, crafts and outdoor play. Volunteers will assist YMCA staff in games and other activities while maintaining a safe, fun and friendly environment for children and their families. Each volunteer will meet with Kid Zone staff prior to their first shift as an Assistant. Participation in an orientation is mandatory for all Kid Zone Volunteers. Project SEE is an internship program for high school students in partnership with The Arc of the Triangle. Participants are preselected by The Arc of the Triangle. Project SEE participants will participate in a variety of tasks with the opportunity to learn new vocational skills and have a basic understanding of businesses.

YMCA Camp Sea Gull/Seafarer
In keeping with the mission of the YMCA and Camps Sea Gull and Seafarer, a weekend volunteer member assists the directors in running safe and fun programs that are focused on character and skill development. Furthermore, weekend volunteers will ensure the safety and wellbeing of the participants in their care. Volunteers will assist staff in supervising and facilitating assigned weekend activity including, but not limited to: Creative Arts, Archery, Riflery, Canoeing, Swimming, and helping in the Dining Hall. Volunteers are expected to help provide an environment of physical, mental and spiritual safety for all participants. Volunteers must be 16 years of age unless they are volunteering with a parent. Volunteers should arrive on Friday afternoon or early evening to check in and get settled in staff housing (bring sheets for a twin bed or a sleeping bag, towels, toiletries, etc.). Typical day is breakfast at 8am, activities 9am-12:30pm, lunch at 1pm then rest period, then activities open again 2:30-5:30pm, dinner at 6pm then evening activities may require some volunteers to work in the evenings. Y Learning provides a structured tutorial program for students who may benefit from additional assistance in meeting school system or grade level benchmarks. The YMCA works with schools, teachers and guidance counselors to identify students who could benefit from this program and who may not have the resources or support to achieve their goals. The YMCA carefully selects counselors and a certified teacher for each Y Learning school site. Students are evaluated periodically to ensure they are making progress. Y Learning is completely funded through the YMCA of the Triangle's Annual Campaign. Help us bridge the education gap by tutoring at a Y Learning site near you.
