Alexander Family YMCA
Teen programs at the Alexander Family YMCA include (1) Y Achievers and (2) Leaders Club. (1) Leaders Club is a nation-wide, year-long leadership-development program for middle and high school teens. The community-service based program helps teens discover their full potential as leaders. This program provides teens with extensive leadership training and volunteer opportunities that support YMCA programs and services to the community. Our goal is to challenge teens to serve the community, and to help them grow in who they are and lead those around them. Leaders Club includes weekly meetings, service and social events, as well as trips throughout the year including rallies, service work weekends, optional spring break trips and Blue Ridge Leaders School. Please note: Positions for this project are limited to those who have registered with the Leaders Club program for the upcoming school year. Another volunteer opportunity within the Leaders Club program is volunteering as an advisor. In addition to teaching teens leadership through service, Leaders Clubs advisors: • introduce teens to all the work the Y does to strengthen community, and • inspire and prepare teens to become future Y leaders. (2) Lightner Y Achievers is a program that helps teens understand and learn who they are at critical times in their lives. The best part of the program? It's a safe haven, a blessing and at the end, teens feel good about who they and everything they can accomplish in life. Y Learning provides a structured tutorial program for students who may benefit from additional assistance in meeting school system or grade level benchmarks. The YMCA works with schools, teachers and guidance counselors to identify students who could benefit from this program and who may not have the resources or support to achieve their goals. The YMCA carefully selects counselors and a certified teacher for each Y Learning school site. Students are evaluated periodically to ensure they are making progress. Y Learning is completely funded through the YMCA of the Triangle's Annual Campaign. Help us bridge the education gap by tutoring at a Y Learning site near you.

Southeast Raleigh YMCA
Youth Fellowship is an academically structured mentoring and literacy program that addresses the individual learning needs of students living in affordable housing communities in Raleigh. Students in Youth Fellowship meet afterschool Mondays-Thursdays 4:30-6:30PM. Participants are assigned two mentors twice a week for one hour throughout the school year. Volunteers are asked to commit to a full school year and to attend for a minimum of 1 hour a week. During this time, students and mentors work through a personalized literacy plan that addresses the student’s individual learning need at each grade level, beginning with kindergarten and continuing through high school graduation. Youth Fellowship serves several affordable housing communities in the area and is held in nearby local church partners. This location serves the community around the Southeast Raleigh YMCA branch. WANT TO MENTOR A CHILD? Youth Fellowship relies heavily on volunteers. We need volunteers Monday through Thursday for a minimum of one hour a week between the times of 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. or 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The program runs for the duration of the school year. Topics covered include literacy development, STEAM curriculum, arts and crafts, and general self esteem and community development. Each student is paired with two adult mentors who strongly support the student for an entire school year and often longer. Specific training for each mentor is provided, along with guidance from Community HOPE staff. Volunteers commit one hour per week for one academic school year.
