Southeast Raleigh YMCA
At the Y we believe swimming is a life skill and all children and adults should have access to water safety classes and basic swim lessons. Swim for Life offers free swim lessons for children and adults based on income qualifications. The Program is funded through the YMCA’s Annual Campaign and a grant from Delta Airlines. In order to provide continuity for swimmers, volunteer instructors are asked to attend all sessions over the three week period. Volunteers will help with instruction, under the guidance and supervision of the swim lesson instructor staff. All volunteers will receive a brief training from Y staff before the sessions start. Volunteers should be confident swimmers themselves. Spanish speakers are desired.
Volunteers should prepare to arrive 15mins early for introductions, instructions, and SER purpose-built mission moment. Volunteers can expect to co-teach 40min swim lessons with a YUSA certified swim instructor. Ideally, volunteers can commit to a full week of lessons to build rapport with the swimmers. But if you can only attend certain days of the week, that is more than fine!
